SEO concepts

1. What is SEO?

SEO, which stands for Search Engine Optimization, refers to the wide variety of strategies used to make your website more appealing to the search engines in the hopes of drawing free traffic to your site. Getting free search engine traffic is often called organic traffic, or natural search traffic. You don't pay for it, and if you have the right mindset, you can continue to get large volumes of natural search traffic for years to come.

Unfortunately, when you first launch a website, you probably won't have thousands of visitors pounding down your door, eating up your bandwidth, just to get a look at your content.

When it comes to getting visitors to your website, you've got a few choices two main ones include either paying for your traffic through pay-per-click advertising programs like Google Ad words or Yahoo Search Marketing, or waiting around for free, organic traffic to find you through the search engines. However, if all you do is launch your site and then sit around waiting for visitors, it could take weeks or months before the major search engines figure out that you're even there at all, let alone send you any free traffic. This is where SEO comes in. You need to design your site and then promote it so that the search engines know what it's about.

2. What is Keyword Research?

Searchers use keywords to find information on the internet. The keyword or key phrase tells the search engine what kind of results to bring back for you. Search engines scour the internet, recording the information they find on various sites around the web. When building a website, choosing the keywords and phrases to focus on is extremely important. You want to target the keywords people are actively searching.

3. What is LSI?

Latent Semantic Indexing (LSI) is one specific algorithm that the search engines use to evaluate site content through related keywords. In order to score high on the search engine rankings, you've used this exact phrase repeatedly throughout your text, without using any related phrases, For example, a key phrase like "SEO tools" could also be written as "SEO products", "SEO courses" or "Search engine optimization eBooks", depending on what your content is about.

4. What is On-Site and Off-Site Optimization?

SEO techniques can be broken down into two general categories onsite and offsite. Both of these will benefit your rankings, so it's worth your time to address them both when building and promoting your website. On-site SEO includes the specific actions you take on your WebPages to increase your search engine position. Off-site SEO techniques are the actions you take outside of your WebPages to increase your search engine position. Backlinks are one of the most important strategies in the offsite SEO toolbox.

5. What is On-Site Optimization Details?

Meta tags are snippets of code you can include on your website to give the search engines more information on what your site is about. Visitors to your webpage won't be able to see this information, but the search engine programs that scour your site will appreciate the tip off.

6. What are Meta Tags?

The most popular tags for SEO purposes are title, keyword and description tags, all of which provide more information to the search engines about your site's content and what search terms its most relevant to.
  • Title Tag
  • Keyword Meta Tags
  • Description Meta Tags
  • Heading Tags
7. What is Anchor Text?

Anchor text is one of the most important factors you must understand in order to earn good rankings from the search engines. Specifically, anchor text refers to the linked text that's displayed in place of a web address the text you click on to be taken to a new web page.

8. What is Off-Site Optimization Details?

Off-site techniques are just as important in getting your site ranked well in the search engines results. For the most part, off-site SEO techniques revolve around the links that point to your site from other WebPages. These links back to your site are commonly called backlinks.

The following types of back links offer the most benefit in terms of off-site search engine optimization:
  • Links from sites with a high Google Page Rank
  • Links from sites with similar content
  • Link extensions matter
  • The number of links to your site
  • Link building is hardly a precise art, as there are a number of additional factors that the search engines take into account when measuring the strength of the backlinks to your site.
In addition, search engine algorithms change frequently, so the factors they give weight to now could change without warning. However, it is safe to say that building up good backlinks from other quality sites is a sound strategy when it comes to search engine optimization, and will remain so for the foreseeable future.

9. What is Directory Submissions?

Submitting your website to both free and paid directory sites is a great way to increase the backlinks to your webpage. Directories are compilation sites that list links to all sorts of sites. Getting your site listed in targeted directories that relate to the theme of your website will likely be seen as a premium by the search engines. In addition, you might even receive some traffic from them.

10. What is Page Rank (PR)

Page Rank is a method of ranking individual web pages by Google and indicates the importance of that web page. It shows more people visits the particular page because of the quality content or information. Page Rank can be identified using tools. Some pages show "No Page Rank information available" because either Google bot haven't crawled the particular page or Google has spammed the page. A corrective action can be taken to make your web page been crawled by the bot. URL optimization will promote web site and have your potential customers find your web site.

Keyword Placement - Key To Success

There are many effective ways you can generate a lot of traffic for your website online and using the proper keyword placement is key to making them all work to the best potential. It's not just about the keywords you use but also where they are placed in your article that will matter the most.

For anyone who may not know, a keyword is the word or phrase you, or someone else, would type into the computers browser to find a certain product or service online.  For example, if you want to buy a book on gardening you would type something like: "gardening book" into whatever search engine you want to use whether it be Google, Yahoo, Bing, etc. That is what a keyword is (and it can be more than one word too).

Now to utilize the keywords in your article you have to be careful how many times you use the word as well as exactly where you put it in your article. That's where  keyword placement comes into play. You don't want to have the mindset that if one keyword is good fifty must be better. No, the search engines are very smart these days and they will see through that ploy and you will be penalized by not having your article rank very well.

Blogs vs. Content-Sites

Now, I build content-sites, and in my free time, I still build more and more. To my definition, a content-site is more or less like what James Martell does. I would research for keywords, define my topics, list the content that I want to have in my site, and then start writing (or get somebody else to write for me).

Done with that, then it’s about building the site, putting web pages together and getting a domain name and web hosting.

After that, you go around looking for link partners.

I suppose most people understand what a blog is. But just in case for some newbie readers, I’ll try to explain what it is. A blog is a site that contains articles after articles written one after the other. The content is not being written all in one go upfront. But it is rather being updated along the way.

A blog lists the articles in a chronology manner, being the latest, the first. MoneyClicking.net is a blog. A blog is normally supported by a system or a script. You can use Blogger.com (remote hosted), Wordpress (PHP script), Movable Type (Perl script), etc.

Anyway, back to the topic. I was on the phone with my friend, we concluded it’s better to have a blog because it’s easier to get traffic with it.

Why? Well, there are some mechanics of a blog and also the culture of blogging that makes it much easier.

If you are promoting a product via an affiliate program, and you are using the same promotion material that the program offers, yoour ads will look EXACTLY like everyone elses, whose promoting the same product.

So, if your potential buyers have seen the ad already via other affiliates, and they didn't buy then, why would they buy from you instead?

Having your own mini affiliate site offers you huge benefits over those other affiliates who do not have their own site.

The first, and probably most important benefit is that you control the content that appears on your own web site. Rather than relying on the product sellers marketing material, you can create a content driven, interactive site that gets people talking about the product and keeping their interest.
